The Coach

Jean Christophe Guinchard
In 1987, at the age of 20, I became Swiss junior champion (first year at the highest level). This result opened the doors to the Henniez Tri Team (the reference team in triathlon at the time), which allowed me to perfect my skills as a young triathlete. In 1993, I decided to become a professional triathlete.
Generally speaking, all these questions remain in the private domain, so we’ll discuss them discreetly.
The support will always be benevolent, but we advise you to see a doctor for confirmation!
During the year we are planning small workshops on the following topics:
- What does Low Carb High Fat (LCHF) mean for an athlete?
- What does cardiac variability mean? How do I use it?

I started coaching with JC Coaching at the end of 2018 with great expectations, as I have been a long-distance triathlete for about 12 years and have more than ten Ironmans under my belt, but despite two participations in the 70.3 World Championships I am still a long way from qualifying for Hawaii. With a very intensive schedule and an extremely time-consuming job. We also had to make sure that I still had some time with my family and didn’t have to sacrifice every weekend for the preparations.
That’s how JC managed to get within a few millimeters of the Grail over the course of a season, even though there was relatively little direct contact (fortunately lots of phone calls and WhatsApp). A great year with varied and I would even say attractive training, regular performance tests that reassure us or motivate us to focus on the essentials again. In test competitions that didn’t go as expected, JC is there to reassure us and knows how to find the right words; between explaining the mistakes made and pointing out unused opportunities and strengths. He helped me to improve my time by an hour within a year and to run a time of 9h33′ at Ironman Barcelona; 2’30” away from the slot for Hawaii. He knows that I have the potential and above all he managed to convince me. This is the first time I know I can do it; I’m 55 years old and have a strong character after a 30-year military career.
So yes, I can just congratulate myself for choosing him and want to thank him for including me in his team and family, because yes, among other things, Team JC is a family of athletes who certainly focus on their performance, but more importantly, by just staying as they are and can also talk about something other than watts, lactate or Strava.

I’ve always done sport occasionally and for fun. As a yoga teacher, I knew very little about running. Two years ago, I needed a new goal in my life, so I set myself the challenge of running Sierre-Zinal in 2022. At the beginning, I trained alone and saw very little results. It was really important to me to do this race.
So I asked Jean-Christophe, who I worked with outside of coaching, for advice. He then explained to me how he trained his athletes. His approach immediately matched what I was looking for.
Curious, conscientious and determined in my projects, I naturally drew on the coach’s skills. I was able to notice my progress quickly. Both my stamina and my speed have improved.
Jean-Christophe listens very carefully to his athletes and is very present. He also knows how to push us when necessary.
He was by my side during my first races and was able to reassure me. That meant I could go to the start of my first trail races with peace of mind. He also always took the time to answer my questions.
At the moment, I’m having so much fun training and racing and I’m so enthusiastic about our collaboration that I’ve decided to continue working with him as a coach. On the way to the 2023 goals.

In September 2021, I joined the Sansego by JC Sport team with the aim of improving my trail running and gradually moving up to the young talents.
Jean-Christophe Guinchard provides me with the framework, support and backing I need to start competing at a young age. The nutritional advice, training plans, racing tips and good humor are a big plus for successfully surpassing yourself.
The group is very diverse and welcoming, a real energy boost!
We train independently during the week as well as together at weekends and in training camps. I can see a clear improvement in my performance.
I am happy to be part of the team and recommend it 100%
